The Member Spotlight showcases those who demonstrate the characteristics necessary for success, both in and out of the gym. Although Trevor and Mandy don’t often participate in group classes, they’ve still been a staple of the CFIS community for the last year. Trevor is also the personal coach of Andris and Shauna, two of the gym’s most competitive CrossFit athletes. We asked them some questions about their CrossFit journey:
- What led you to CrossFit? Describe your experience.
Trevor – I found CrossFit early on in order to get better at the sports I was playing in high school. After finding that training was also very exciting in itself, I took a deeper dive into competing, training, and coaching.
Mandy – After being a collegiate athlete, I was looking to stay fit and wanted a new challenge. While working at a functional training gym, I came across the methodology and loved the way the community made me feel.
- What have been the most significant changes you’ve noticed? These could be lifestyle, body composition, or performance.
Trevor – I noticed the most significant change from CrossFit in my mental state. Playing sports all the time growing up left a void that I needed to fill. Being able to compete with others in the sport of CrossFit and with myself daily has led me to always want to be the best in whatever I do.
Mandy – I noticed that my whole lifestyle started to change as I cared more about my health and basic principles to lead to a happier and healthier life. Everything from my sleeping, to nutrition, to mental state became something that was always taken into account. Not just exercise in the gym.
- What’s your favorite (or least favorite) exercise? If you could program a workout, what would it be?
We’ve both have been professional coaches for the past few years and have grown to appreciate all movements and their places in training. Mandy does enjoy upper body pump sessions, while Trevor will always choose something with heavy weights.
- Tell us something we don’t know about you! Something not fitness related.
We share our home with two extremely needy French Bulldogs (Henry and Miley) who occupy every free minute of attention they can get.
- What’s next? Have you set any goals for the future?
Trevor – I would like to see what I’m capable of in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting and plan to sign up for the upcoming meet on April 25th at the gym.
Mandy – My current goal is to focus on that “look good, feel good” style of training while enjoying the many benefits of exercise…outside of feeling like I’m about to die.
